April 5, 2014: Bob Jones states "Gayle and Joe Brower are interested in getting Sharsmith Peak named. Gayle says that as a teenager she hiked the Sierras with Sharsmith and she has fond memories of those days."

April 7, 2014: Bob Jones received the note below from Joe Brower:

"Dear Bob:

Just a note to let you know what we are enthusiastic about adding our names to your brother's [Bill Jones'] project, "Name4Carl.org."  Years ago Gayle told me of her 1931 accent of Mt. Dana.  At age 11, she joined a group led by Ranger Naturalist Carl Sharsmith.  My own attempt came a year later as a 12-year old.  Led by brother David, we encountered hail and lightning near the summit.  When Dave's electrically charged hair stood on end, our attempt ended, but not our passion for Yosemite and the high country.

By the time of our last "Walk with Carl," (shortly before his death in 1994), Carl had become a Living Legend.  Over a span of 64 years, Carl introduced countless intergenerational park visitors as well as generations of this college students to the High Sierra and the ethics and values of N. P. S.

 Signed

    Joe Brower"
